Saki Takeuchi - Vintage kimono collage artist from Japan.
my work is deeply rooted in tradition, sustainability, and personal heritage. Growing up in a family with strong ties to kimono, I was inspired by the artistry and dedication of the women in my life. My grandmother hand-sewed exquisite kimonos with precision and care, while my mother worked as a dressmaker, transforming kimono silk into elegant garments. Watching them create with such passion instilled in me a profound respect for kimono as an artistic medium.

I began expressing my creativity through drawing and painting at an early age, learning oil painting at just eight years old. Later, I pursued a degree in painting and graphic design, which allowed me to hone my skills and develop my artistic voice. After graduating, I turned my focus to blending tradition with innovation. Bringing with me an array of unique kimono fabrics inherited from my grandmother, I started experimenting with ways to incorporate these timeless materials into my art.

Today, I have developed a distinct style of kimono collage, combining vintage fabrics with acrylic paint, gold flakes, gold glitter, and various other media on canvas or wood. My work is often inspired by nature, with motifs of flowers, plants, animals, and landscapes frequently appearing in my creations.

By repurposing these heirloom fabrics, my art not only preserves their cultural and sentimental value but also addresses global issues like fashion pollution and the environmental impact of waste. Each collage is a testament to sustainability, proving that art can play a vital role in preventing global warming by embracing the beauty of reuse and mindful consumption.
This work celebrates the connection between family legacy, the natural world, and the future of our planet. Through my art, I hope to inspire others to treasure their heritage, respect the environment, and find beauty in creating something new from something old.
